The data grid in SAS Enterprise Guide 7.1 might not perform as well as earlier versions, especially when viewing data with thousands of columns or hundreds of millions of rows.

In some cases, the performance can be improved by reducing the maximum number of columns or rows of data that will be displayed in the data grid. To make this change, select Tools ► Options ► Data ► Performance, and then select Maximum dimensions to display in the data grid.

If you need to view more columns or rows of data in the data grid, you must increase the limits. However, if the performance is not acceptable with your specified limits, SAS recommends using the Explore data feature to view your data.

To use the Explore feature, follow these steps:

1. Select View ► Servers.
2. Expand Servers ► SASApp (or other workspace server name) ► Libraries.
3. Expand the library that contains the data that you want to view.
4. Right-click the data, and then select Explore.

Currently, only permanent data, not WORK data, can be viewed using the Explore data method.

The performance of the data grid will be improved in a future version of SAS Enterprise Guide.
